Exploring a Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have encountered numerous engaging indie games. Yet, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is literally a piece of poop striving to make its way to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."

How you interact is straightforward: just use a single jump button. Across one hundred fifty stages, encounter boss fights and access a shop to acquire skins for your fecal avatar.

Plan your movements precisely, as a error means starting over. Leap on floating orbs to hurl the poop higher, traverse disappearing platforms, and activate buttons to reveal secret routes. Collect UN-KOINS for buying challenging game content as things gets crazy.

In terms of design, the demo shows off eye-catching environments and an amazing music score. The simple graphics with morphing basic polygons could recall fans of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's hard to name previous releases where you play as a piece of feces, video games frequently featured toilet humor. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can make grenades from character excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as soil enrichment. And of course, this theme is present heavily in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Despite its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already received notable awards, such as taking top honors at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. This trial version is available at present on Steam, with the final release planned to launch on Steam this November.
